Overview:
In PART 1 of this 4-day summer camp style course, learn the art of tailoring and altering suits to fit you like a dream. This course covers the ins and outs of tailoring suit pants for fit, restyling as well as creative upcycling methods. Using deconstruction and reconstruction techniques, this class is designed to slowly move students from the basics toward more advanced tailoring tactics.
Basic sewing experience is ideal for taking this class (can operate a domestic sewing machine with some confidence). This class is for YOU if you want to learn how to tailor suits for yourself, to start a tailoring and alterations business, to update your skills for work, learn to upcycle and resize old suits, or just want to try something new!!
It is recommended that students can thread and operate a domestic sewing machine with ease, feel confident in using pins and stitch rippers, have sewn at least one project (large or small) before OR have taken our Tailoring 103 class.
Part 2: All about Jackets!

Pary 3: Revamp an old suit into a totally new style and fit!
Runs September 3rd-12th
Goals:
In PART 1 of this 3-part course, the most common list of alterations for suiting pants will be taught. From executing basic fit for off-the-rack suit trousers, to complete redesign for upcycled suits. This class is ideal for those looking to get in-depth instruction on how to disassemble and reassemble a suit for a variety of purposes. Based on some students' speed, extra time outside of class may be required to learn and complete all the functions outlined.
Who is this class for:
This class is ideal for intermediate and advanced sewers, fashion students, film and wardrobe workers and anyone looking to enhance and grow confidence in suit tailoring. This class is for anyone who wants to learn resizing techniques, upcycling methods, pinning strategies, alteration communication and fit. If you want to take this class but don’t have sewing machine experience, take our Tailoring Basics class to prepare for this class. $70 2-hour workshop offered weekly.
Students must supply their own suit pants for alterations.
What to bring:
Bring 1- 2 suits to fit yourself that are currently ill-fitting.
One suit should mostly fit okay but requires a change of some variety of hemming, leg tapering, etc.
The second suit should be a very poor fit (too big--- NOT TOO SMALL)
Thread, tools, and machines are supplied.
*Fusing, buttons, zippers and some notions are available for purchase in the studio.
*If extra time is needed to complete patterning and sewing, extra studio time and private lessons may be requested at additional costs.

Class 1.
Pants: PINNING!!! Everything good comes down to quality pinning. Waist adjustments and pant leg tapering.
Class 2.
Pants: Waistband size adjustments and fixing the fit at the crotch and seat
Class 3.
Pants: Hemming and leg tapering
Class 4.
Pants: How to treat major leg tapering and leg fit changes

Jackets: PINNING!! How to asses for better fit, where to place your pins, and WHY!
Class 6.
Jackets: Taking in the various seams around the body
Class 7.
Jackets: Taking in the shoulders!!
Class 8.
Jackets: Shoulders cont’d and how to slim the sleeves!
Part 3: $380 +tx

All About The Total Revamp!
(Sewing knowledge is required to succeed in this class. It is recommended you’ve taken Part 1 or 2 of the Suit Tailoring and Alterations course, our Tailoring basics class and/ or Beginner Tailoring Series before taking this intensive suiting class)
Class 9.
Suits: Shoulders! How to dramatically change shoulders (intro and continuation from Part 2 class)
Class 10.
Suits: Changing the collar and lapel shape
Class 11.
Suits: Hemming a suit jacket! How to pin and what to consider when executing this effect.
Class 12.
Suits: Finishing effects, how to close off the linings, and ways to complete your work professionally.
**If extra time is needed to complete tailoring steps, extra studio time can be purchased for alternate days, join another Tailoring 101 or 102 class or book private lessons.
